Portland in Pictures: Mt. Hood
The backdrop for much of the Pacific Northwest, and the Portland metro area, Mt. Hood dominates the skyline of much of Oregon and the surrounding states. Climbing over 11,000 feet high, Mt. Hood lays claim as the tallest mountain in Oregon and one of the tallest in the Pacific Northwest.
Mt. Hood is technically considered to be a dormant volcano, however, there is speculation by scientists and geologists that there is roughly a 5% of an eruption.
This snow-capped wonder of nature can be seen for miles and the signature white cap is as much a trademark as the mountain itself. Surrounded by 12 glaciers, Mt. Hood makes for some of the most scenice and beautiful pictures to be found in Portland.
