Loading ...Jon Hagen opened Longfellows in 1980 with little knowledge of the book business and only an unabiding passion for reading as inspiration. 26 years later we’ve settled into a routine by providing quality rare, antiquarian and interesting books to a variety of customers, dealers and friends. You can see pictures of our current location on the homepage, which is the building we’ve done business in since 1991. We are located in the heart of SE Portland, on the newly hip Division St, the street which the Hagen family has lived on for the last 26 years. Nile Hagen, Jon’s son, is now a regular fixture in the store who helps particularly with the online side of the business. We have always been a family owned and run business, and the only people who participate in the running of the business are Jon and Nile.
Having begun this site in late 2006, we endeavor to provide our customers with the books that they want at competitive prices. We strive to maintain quality stock, and specialize in first editions, rare and antiquarian material including ephemera, and a variety of miscellaneous stock ranging from Pacific Northwest, US and world history books dealing with music or the social sciences.
We also have an extensive collection of sheet music and music books, ranging from common pieces to collectible, and a wide variety of magazines from the 1890s to the 1980s, with the highest concentrations being of Life, Playboy, Sports Illustrated and National Geographic magazines. We also have back issues of Architectural Forum/Digest, Etude, Esquire, Fortune, Vogue, Rolling Stone and others. These issues are generally in collectible condition and priced as such. We hope to be able to list the majority of our magazines in the near future, but please feel free to inquire about any of them if you’re looking for a specific issue.
